Toyota Vitz Full Reviews With Pros and Cons

16 Jul

The Toyota Vitz is probably the first name that comes to mind when thinking about a practical, reliable, and economical car for the busy streets of Dhaka or Chittagong. This 5-door car happens to be the most sought out car in Bangladeshi car market and it has been there for years which also means this car is a household name and choice of thousands. So in this review, we have tried to explain in depth reasons on why the Toyota Vitz still remains a popular budget option for city commuters, small families or first time car buyers in Bangladesh.

Introduction

The Toyota Vitz is a fortified champion in the subcompact hatchback segment known for its reliability, fuel economy, and ownership costs. The Vitz is not a new vehicle by any standards in Bangladesh, at least by dealership supply regulations. Rather, it dominates the lucrative and booming used car market. These include lightly-used cars imported straight from Japan in often like-new condition with very low mileage.

The Vitz is the ideal urban automobile. The truck also easily handles heavy traffic and can fit in tight spaces due to its compact size, while its surprisingly large interior indeed makes it manageable for small families. It is a safe, sensible and smart investment for first time buyers.

Engine and Performance: Built for Bangladeshi Roads

Engine: The third generation (2010-2019) models are the most common here in Bangladesh. They generally have one of two engine options:

1.0-litre (1KR-FE) 3-cylinder: The most common engine, producing around 68 hp. It has become famous for its great fuel consumption rate.

1.3-litre (1NR-FKE) 4-cylinder: A little more power (around 98 hp in this case) for those who want a more engaging experience without a dramatic hit to fuel economy.

Transmission and Driving Experience: Near about All reconditioned Vitz comes fitted with Super Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). There are no jangly gear shifts with this gearbox and so city driving in stop-and-go traffic is a smooth-as-butter affair.

The condo performs pretty well on Bangladeshi roads. The light steering and small turning radius are perfect for the madness of the cityscape. Speaking of which, the suspension is fairly well-tuned for comfort and absorbs most small bumps and potholes with ease. Though, on some of the hardest, most broken pavement, the ride can get a little stiff.

Fuel Economy: This is where the Vitz captures the love of most Bangladeshi consumers. With soaring fuel prices, top-notch mileage is a must.

  • Real-life mileage (in the City: in Dhaka traffic): 10-13 km/L
  • On the Highway (for example Dhaka-Chittagong): The Vitz does even better, achieving an awe inspiring 15-18 km/L.

Exterior Design

The Vitz's third-generation looks very sharp, contemporary and youthful but also is aging well. The front end is highlighted by big swept-back headlights and a unique V-shaped grille, which helps give the SUV an assertive presence. Its relatively small dimensions are one of the car's great strengths, without looking too small or compromised.

It is usually equipped with 14- or 15-inch wheels, depending on the trim level or "package." There are many colours for Reconditioned units but thecommon colours inBangladesh are Pearl White, Silver, Black and Red. The build quality across the board comes off as premium and classic Japanese — durable.

Interior & Comfort

Get inside, and you are welcomed with a cabin that favors utility and sensibility than outright opulence.

  • Layout and Materials: Five occupants Many of the seats are covered in a tough fabric. The dashboard and door panels feature hard plastics, though they're assembled well and feel durable.

  • Dashboard and Infotainment: Dashboard design is simple and user friendly. The majority of reconditioned models from Japan come with their stock Japanese infotainment systems. But almost all Bangladeshi car dealers replace these with Android based touchscreens around the world.

  • Space and Storage: The Vitz is surprisingly big for a hatch. Plenty of legroom and headroom for front passengers. Its rear bench is fine for two adults and three children, although taller passengers may lack legroom on longer hops. Boot space is adequate for grocery shopping or a pair of small suitcases for a weekend trip.

  • AC Performance: The AC is classic Toyota — strong and efficient, with a chilled cabin even on the hottest, muggiest Bangladeshi summers. Cabin noise is well muted at low speeds, but some engine noise and some road noise makes it into the cabin at highway speeds.

Features & Technology

The specification in a Toyota Vitz strongly relates to the imported grade/package (e.g. "F", "Jewel", "U Package", etc.)

  • Infotainment: As noted, most units come with an aftermarket Android screen that offers Bluetooth, Google Maps navigation, YouTube, and smartphone integration.
  • Safety Features: That is always a plus. Most base models are bound to get dual Airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). The range-topping models gain Toyota's Safety Sense C (TSS-C) package, which features a pre-collision system and lane departure alert. Features like rearview camera and parking sensors are common but also must-have.
  • Convenience: A lot of models available in Bangladesh include all sorts of modern convenience, Push Start, Keyless smart entry, power reck-tractable side mirrors, automatic climate control.

Price in Bangladesh

As these are reconditioned vehicles, there is no fixed official price. The price in Bangladesh depends heavily on the model year, auction grade (a score given in Japan for the car's condition), mileage, and included features.

As of mid-2025, you can expect the following approximate price range for a Toyota Vitz in the reconditioned market:

  • 2017-2019 Models: The price typically ranges from BDT 14,50,000 to BDT 20,00,000.

It's crucial to buy from a reputable car importer or showroom that provides genuine auction sheets to verify the car's condition and mileage.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Legendary Toyota Reliability: Peace of mind is guaranteed.
  • Excellent Fuel Efficiency: Saves you a lot of money on fuel costs.
  • Low Maintenance Cost: Spare parts are widely available and affordable across Bangladesh.
  • High Resale Value: The Vitz holds its value exceptionally well.
  • Easy to Drive and Park: Perfect for congested cities.
  • Well-Equipped with Safety Features: Often includes multiple airbags and ABS as standard.

Cons:

  • Limited Rear Legroom: Can be tight for taller passengers in the back.
  • Adequate, Not Exciting, Performance: The 1.0L engine is built for economy, not speed.
  • Firm Ride on Poor Roads: Can feel a bit bumpy on very rough patches.
  • Basic Interior Plastics: The cabin is functional but not luxurious.

Final Verdict

The Toyota Vitz is more than a car in today's world, it is a choice for the educated Bangladeshi buyer. They hit the sweet spot of practicality, efficiency, and reliability delivered in a small and manageable package. Sure, it does not provide exhilarating performance or an upmarket cabin, but delivers everything that matters for quotidian travel in Bangladesh.

Who should buy it? The Toyota Vitz is the ideal choice for:

  • First-time car owners looking for a hassle-free ownership experience.
  • Small families needing a dependable city runabout.
  • Anyone whose top priorities are low running costs, fuel efficiency, and strong resale value.

The Toyota Vitz is an affordable option in the reconditioned market. It's definitely a bit more expensive to buy at first than some rivals, but it's impossible to argue that it won't be cheaper in the long run and the peace of mind it brings is priceless. Toyota Vitz still sits on the throne in hatchback kingdom in Bangladesh.
